"The Ghouls of Fort Alexander Residential School"

2020, 24"x30" acrylic on canvas

The process of reconnecting to my Anishinaabe roots after surviving the Sixties Scoop has led me to believe that my father was originally for Sagkeeng First Nation. The closest Residential School to Sagkeeng is the Fort Alexander Residential School. I never met him and this loss has had a profoundly negative impact on my life. I don't know if he attended Fort Alexander or not, but not being able to answer some of the most basic questions about my biological family is hard to accept. This portrait I painted of him as a child is marred by a Colonial history that took him from me.
